Checking for the presence of tobacco alkaloids

An alkaloid is a generic term to define a nitrogen-based molecule. There are many kinds such as nicotine which is a tobacco alkaloid there is also cotinine, nornicotine, anatabine, anabasine, nicotine N oxide, myosmine and beta nicotyrine.

For vaping products, it is recommended to use nicotine of EP grade (European pharmacopeia) in order to limit the presence of alkaloids capable potentially of being harmful to health. The EP grade complies with a standard fixing a limit level of impurities of nicotine among which we find the alkaloids.

What are the effects of tobacco alkaloids on humans?

The effects of alkaloids on humans are variable according to their typology and their concentration in the product.
